Nursery Time
There is no more important time for music than the early years. I started Nursery Time in 1989, to give very young children in Burwell area (with their mothers/carers) enjoyable, creative and practical experiences with live music-making. The classes follow Kodály principles: using the singing voice, families enjoy new and traditional songs, rhymes and singing games, and the fun of group music-making.
EDUCATIONAL AND ENJOYABLE
- Live music-making with an experienced leader
- Child-centred songs and activities
- Action songs, partner games, circle games and movement
- Puppets and role-play
- Playing percussion instruments
- Listening and responding to live instruments.
Each week there are circle activities, counting songs and finger games, action songs, rhymes and activities, songs accompanied by guitar, piano or recorder, big-circle singing games, movement to music, partner games, and the experience of playing small percussion instruments. There is role-play, fun with puppets and toys, and seasonal materials to reflect the changing weather, seasons and festivals. Children and their carers learn many new songs and also enjoy well-known favourite repertoire, including traditional nursery rhymes.
